Metaphorically Speaking

“I practice in the stream's presence mindful only of the moments that flow by me as I wade in its wisdom.”

As a leader, clarity is a powerful skill that builds credibility.

When we get to confident brevity we are more successful in inviting others into the full story of problem and solution.

'Getting to the point' isn't always about a small amount of time or the use of just a few words. We are effective when, because of our story and experience, we deliver the point wrapped in clarity.

The Wrapping
Recently I assembled a small book that gets down to business around its narrow focus - the intended point. At the same time, I'm writing another book that draws more from my own story and full experience. I was in the writing process for over six months before creating any meaningful new content. I knew the point of the book; or at least I thought I did.

As I worked on the process - interview plans, basic outline, and tasks - I realized something very important was missing. I was not present in the creation of content. There was no flow.

I found myself occupied with past content and fretting over content that was yet to be written. This was distracting me from the real point. When I purposed to refocus on the point, I swapped the title and sub-title and in the process found myself back in the present.

Being the visual feeler that I am, I needed a driving metaphor. The metaphor is the vehicle that will deliver the point wrapped in clarity.
