What's That Noise? - Listen to the Thought Pod

“Being busy is a form of laziness - lazy thinking and indiscriminate action. Being overwhelmed is often as unproductive as doing nothing.”  Timothy Ferriss in The 4 Hour Workweek

A thirty year old recently told me of his short jaunt in his auto while he drove in silence. He was impacted by the experience. Yes, for him it was an experience.

With my satellite radio, CD changer, cell phone, and small digital recorder, my own days of silent driving are not as frequent as they once were. I love the technology. Over the last 20 years I can clearly track how it has all made me better - at least more efficient.

Has it made me more effective? In a broad view of time, the answer is yes. There have however been times when the increased efficiency opened the flood gate for busyness to capitalize on my earned time. This was a level of noise I could do without.

The busyness in our lives is just that - noise.

I saw the travesty that was supposed to be an interview with the young Tim Ferriss about his book The 4 Hour Workweek. Two things, no three, were obvious. One, neither interviewer had read the book, neither understood Tim's message in the book, and both interviewers were blinded by their own noise limitations; consume your time with unimportant things and be consumed by time.

They were making this about their own learned and present views and, I suppose, about profit. Tim has no quarrel with profit. Tim's book is about living your life.

What's that noise? It's the wind of distraction rushing in to take your focus!
